How is the whiskybase rating calculated?

Modified on Tue, 14 May at 3:17 PM

The current setup of the Whiskybase rating is a fairly simple calculation.

We remove the top rating and the bottom rating and divide the total amount by the amount of ratings.

For instance there are 5 ratings: 90 - 89 - 89 - 88 - 87.

We remove the top rating and bottom rating leaving us with: 89 - 89 - 88 = 266 / 3 = 88,66

The top rating or bottom rating is always the full amount of top/bottom ratings.

For example: 90 - 90 - 89 - 88 - 88

We have 1 rating to be used in the calculation.

If the amount of ratings is below 4 in total we use all the ratings. That includes the top and bottom rating.

Important to know:

- Private ratings are not calculated into the average rating

- Average ratings are updated each time a rating is given to a bottle.

- We remove users and all their ratings if we find proof that this particular user has been giving false ratings.
