Stripe on the Whiskybase Marketplace

Modified on Thu, 6 Nov at 4:21 PM

Stripe is a trusted payment service provider that enables secure online payments between buyers and sellers on the Whiskybase Marketplace.

It functions as a digital wallet where your payouts are received and can then be transferred to your bank account.

You can learn more about Stripe at www.stripe.com.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

1. Who can use Stripe

Stripe is available to sellers based within the European Union.

If you are located outside the EU, you will need to use PayPal to receive payments.

2. Setting up your Stripe account

To receive payments, you need to connect a Stripe account to your Whiskybase profile.

  1. Go to your Profile → Marketplace → Seller’s section and follow the steps to create or connect your Stripe account.

  2. Choose between a personal or business account.

    • For business accounts, Stripe requires additional details such as company name, registration number, and city.

    • If you do not have a company registration number, you can use HRG00000000 together with your city name to complete the setup.

Once your account is connected and verified, it will be used automatically for all payouts.

3. How Stripe payments work

Stripe works through an escrow system that protects both buyers and sellers.

When a buyer pays for an order, the payment is first sent to Whiskybase’s secure Marketplace Stripe account, where it remains until the buyer confirms receipt of the bottle.

Once the buyer marks the order as "Accepted," Whiskybase releases the payout to your Stripe wallet.

Payments from buyers are not visible in your Stripe dashboard until the transaction is completed. You can always verify an order’s payment status on the order page in your Marketplace dashboard.

4. Supported payment methods

Stripe supports several payment methods commonly used across Europe, including:

  • iDeal

  • Sofort

  • Credit cards

  • Bancontact

  • Giropay

5. Fees and payout timing

Whiskybase charges a fixed 8% fee on the bottle price (excluding shipping costs) for orders processed through Stripe. This fee covers both the Whiskybase Marketplace commission and Stripe’s transaction costs.

Once the order is accepted, the payout is immediately processed to your Stripe wallet.

Stripe then transfers the funds to your bank account after approximately 7 days.

6. Troubleshooting payments

If you have sold a bottle and the order shows as paid in Whiskybase but not in your Stripe dashboard, this is normal until the order is accepted.

Note: The payout will only appear once the buyer has confirmed receipt of the bottle.

If a payment made by SOFORT or SEPA still shows as pending, please note that:

  • SOFORT payments typically take 2 to 3 business days to process.

  • SEPA (bank transfers) can take up to 10 business days.
Once the payment clears, the order status will update automatically.
