Photo Editing Guide

Modified on Tue, 8 Jul at 11:01 AM

This guide is designed to support members interested in contributing new photos to Whiskybase.

Before You Start

To ensure time your time is spent efficiently, here are a few important checks to perform before uploading images:

✅ Check for Existing Photos

  • If a bottle entry already has good-quality photos, we'll typically only accept new images if they offer additional value (e.g. packaging, label close-ups) or are of noticeably higher resolution or clarity.

  • If the photo adds no meaningful improvement to the community, but instead is of personal value, consider uploading it to your personal bottle record instead. (You can unlock personal uploads with a Whiskybase Plus account.)

✅ Check Image Quality

  • Uploaded images should show the entire bottle, in focus, and without distracting backgrounds or poor lighting.

✅ Check for Copyright Issues

  • Unless you are a brand representative, please do not upload copyrighted material or official photographs.

  • Photo uploads that appear professionally shot, or too are low-res, trigger automatic rejections.

  • If photography is your hobby and you take professional-standard bottle photographs that you'd like to submit to Whiskybase, please let us know before submitting (support@whiskybase.com) so that your photos are not automatically rejected.

Photo Dimensions

Have an image that meets the above standards?

  1. Download the image and open it in a tool like Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or Gimp.

  2. Remove the background and adjust image size using these guidelines:

  • Labels and packaging images do not need background removal.

  • Save these as PNG files with a 1600 px height.
