1. Setting up PayPal
To receive payments through PayPal, you must connect a verified PayPal account to your Whiskybase Marketplace profile.
Follow these steps:
Verify your PayPal account.
Check your verification status: Check PayPal account status
Learn more about PayPal verification: Customer Identification Program (CIP)
Verification is a required security step before your account can connect successfully.
Match your account details.
Your first name, last name, and email address must exactly match your PayPal account details, including capitalization.
Any mismatch between your PayPal and Whiskybase information will prevent a successful connection.
2. How PayPal works on the Marketplace
When you sell a bottle, the buyer’s payment is sent to your PayPal account through the Whiskybase Marketplace system.
The money is first placed on hold until the buyer confirms that the order has arrived and is in good condition.
Once the buyer accepts the order, PayPal receives an automatic signal from Whiskybase to release the payment to your account. The Marketplace fee and PayPal transaction fee are then deducted automatically.
This process ensures safe and traceable payments for both sellers and buyers.
3. Payment delays and how to avoid them
Sometimes PayPal may delay releasing payments even after an order has been accepted.
This can happen for several reasons, the most common being when shipping or tracking information is added manually in PayPal.
When tracking data is entered directly into PayPal, their system may hold the funds until they verify delivery — this process can take one to several weeks.
To avoid delays:
Do not add shipping or tracking information manually in PayPal.
Whiskybase automatically provides PayPal with the necessary delivery data when needed.
If your payment is delayed because shipping information was added, you can speed up the release by following PayPal’s own guides:
There may also be other reasons for delays. For full details, see PayPal’s documentation on funds availability.
4. When to contact Whiskybase
