How is my Collection Value calculated?

Modified on Thu, 26 Feb at 1:54 PM

If you are wondering how your collection value is calculated, why some bottles are missing from your total, or why different totals show different amounts, this article explains exactly how collection valuation works.

Your collection value is calculated using strict rules and only real price data. We do not estimate, guess, or fill in missing values. Each total is calculated separately based only on the price data available for each bottle.

Your account displays three different totals:

  • Total Value – Price Paid

  • Total Value – Average Shop Price

  • Total Value – Auction Value

Each of these totals represents a different type of bottle valuation.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

1. Core Principle Behind Collection Valuation

We calculate your total collection worth strictly from available price data.

If price information is missing for a specific bottle, that bottle is excluded from that specific valuation. We do not insert zero values, estimate missing prices, replace missing data with averages from other bottles, or infer values.

Each total is calculated independently based on its own available price data.

2. Total Value – Price Paid

The Total Value – Price Paid shows the total amount you have personally paid for the bottles in your collection.

If you have entered a price paid for a bottle, that exact value is included in the calculation. If you have not entered a purchase price, the bottle is excluded from this total.

The calculation simply adds together all price paid values that are filled in. There is no fallback logic and no estimation. Only the data you entered is used.

If you want a bottle to be included in your Total Paid Value, make sure the purchase price is entered in your collection details.

3. Total Value – Average Shop Price

The Total Value – Average Shop Price reflects the estimated current shop value of your bottles based on available market data.

If a current average shop price exists for a bottle, we use that value. If a current price is not available but a historical shop price exists, we use the most recent known shop price. If no shop price exists at all, the bottle is excluded from this total.

We always use the most recent known shop price. We do not create artificial zero values and we do not estimate missing shop prices.

4. Total Value – Auction Value

The Total Value – Auction Value reflects available auction market data.

If a current auction value exists for a bottle, it is included in the total. If no auction value is available, the bottle is excluded from this calculation.

Only bottles with auction value data are included. No assumptions or replacement values are applied.

5. Why Is a Bottle Missing From My Collection Value?

If a bottle is not included in one of your totals, it usually means the required price data for that specific calculation is not available.

For example:

  • If no price paid is entered, the bottle will not appear in the Total Value – Price Paid.

  • If no shop price data exists, it will not appear in the Total Value – Average Shop Price.

  • If no auction value exists, it will not appear in the Total Value – Auction Value.

Each total is calculated independently. This is why your total collection value may differ across the three valuation types.

6. Why Is My Total Collection Value Lower Than Expected?

Your total collection value only includes bottles with available price data for that specific calculation.

If price information is missing, those bottles are excluded rather than estimated. This can result in a lower total than expected, especially if several bottles do not yet have shop or auction data.

7. How Can I Make Sure My Collection Value Is Accurate?

To ensure your Total Value – Price Paid is accurate, make sure you enter the correct purchase price for each bottle you own.

Shop price and auction value totals depend on available market data. If no data exists, the bottle cannot be included in those calculations.
