This article explains how to prepare and upload bottle photos to Whiskybase. Clear and accurate images help improve the quality of the database for all members.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
1. Before you start
Review these checks before uploading a photo.
✅1.1 Check for existing photos
If a bottle entry already has good photos, we only accept new images when they add value. Examples include packaging, label close-ups, or significantly higher quality images.
If your photo is only for personal use, you can upload it to your own bottle record. This feature is available for Whiskybase Plus members.
Note: Do you consider yourself a serious collector and would you like to discover more about Whiskybase Plus? You can find more information about it here.
✅1.2 Check image quality
Your photo should be sharp, well lit, and show the full bottle without distracting backgrounds.
✅1.3 Check for copyright
Only upload photos you took yourself. Do not upload official brand photos unless you represent the brand.
Very low quality images or photos that appear professionally produced may be rejected automatically.
If you take high standard studio photos as a hobby and want to contribute, you can contact us first at support@whiskybase.com so your uploads are not blocked.
2. Photo dimensions
When your photo meets the requirements, prepare it in a tool such as Photoshop, Canva, or Gimp.
Remove the background and use the dimensions below.
| BOTTLE SIZE | BOTTLE HEIGHT | WORKSPACE SIZE |
|---|---|---|
| 70 cl or 75 cl | 1600 px | 1600 × 800 px |
| 50 cl | 1230 px | 1600 × 800 px |
| 20 cl | 1120 px | 1600 × 800 px |
| 5 cl | 600 px | 1600 × 800 px |
Save and upload the final file as a PNG.
3. Label and packaging photos
Label or packaging images do not require background removal.
Save these as PNG files with a height of 1600 px.
